| Q: | Adam & Eve had the first two sons. Some think these sons might have sex with mother in order to have a sister. It's should be wrong to have sex like that! The Bible never mentions the second Adam & Eve. I know Jesus is the second Adam = 1 Corinthians 15:47. What about Lot's two daughters who have sex with her father who made him drunk. It's should be wrong too? | ||||||
| A: | Nowhere does Scripture even hint that either Cain or Abel ever had sexual relations with Eve. We dare not argue from silence and try to invent possibilities. Scripture is clear, however, that Adam and Eve did have many sons and daughters. Genesis 5:4 states, "After Seth was born, Adam lived 800 years and had other sons and daughters." For many, many years our first parents raised many sons and daughers. The Bible does not give us the names of them all, nor the exact number of siblings. Yet even if Adam and Eve had a child once every several years, imagine the number born over the centuries. Scripture is silent, so the issue is not vital to our salvation knowledge. Be assured, however, that there were many daugthers in the original family. It is true that in the beginning a brother would marry a sister. As long as it pleased the Lord God to let the human race descend from one pair, such marriage between brothers and sisters was a necessity. Yet after a time, that necessity is removed. As the world becomes more populated, the Lord will forbid sexual relations among close relatives (see Lev. 19). Many human governments have also outlawed such practice due to the health risks involved in such human reproduction. Regarding the incident of Lot and his two daughters, several sins are involved. The sin of incest is involved and so also the sin of drunkenness, to name but two. Lot fails miserably in being a father. Keep in mind that the Bible describes sinful human beings in the ugliness of their sin. Why? By relating such sad events, the Bible is not condoning such practice nor giving some example to excuse sinful behavior today. Rather, the Bible demosntrates just how far the sinful human nature can fall. The Bible describes people who murder, who rape, who steal, who kill children, and on and on with horrible sins that mock God's righteousness and ignore his commands. With such history, the Bible clearly teaches the reader that humans need help. We need a Savior. We need one to come and live the perfect life impossible for us, and die a death as sin-payment for the world. Jesus is that one. God now places all such sordid and tragic sin upon his own Son Jesus, as the prophet foretold, "The Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all." (Isaiah 53:6) Jesus shouted, "It is finished" from that cross so you and I have complete confidence that all sin has been paid for. On Easter the tomb is empty. Jesus' resurrection shouts to the world that God accepted that sin-payment and we have new life and new hope in Jesus. We rejoice and believe that good news in Christ! | ||||||
