| Q: | I know that with the recent death of Princess Diana, there has been a greater interest in the Church of England. I recently visited the COE website(http://www.church-of-england.org), and browsed around in their church bookshop. One book in particular caught my eye. It was about human sexuality. I know that you mentioned earlier that the COE is a very liberal church, however in this book, it makes it very clear that homosexuality is wrong. The book was written by the Archbishop of Canterbury. If the COE does believe that homosexuality is wrong, and against God's law, how come they associate themselves with the Episcopal Church, which is also part in the Anglican communion? | ||||||
| A: | Both the Episcopal Church of America and the Church of England are pluralistic churches which allow for diversity of doctrine within their fellowship, so there is nothing unusual about different branches of the church holding different views. Both of these churches presently contain sharp differences concerning homosexuality and the permissible role of homosexuals in the ministry.
