Q:I have a few questions regarding women and roles: Regarding I Corinthians 14:34: 1. I have read the Law of the Old Testament and cannot find anything that tells the women to be silent or subject to men. What is the scripture reference(s) so that I can look it up? Paul was a Pharisee so I am sure he knew the Old Testament well. Is he quoting scripture or rabbinic law? If it is rabbinical law, what is the reference so that I may study it?

A:In the other two chapters in which Paul discusses this issue (1 Cor 11 and 1 Tim 2) Paul cites the account of creation and the fall as the basis for his teaching. Since the writings of Moses are called "the Law" in Hebrew, we conclude that he is referring to the creation account also here.
