Q:The Bible says that women are to be silent in church and if they have questions, they are to ask their husband at home. It also states that women are not to have authority over men. WELS allows women to sing in choirs and to sing with the rest of the congregation when hymns are sung but forbids women to be ministers because of what the Bible says. Isn't WELS trying to make the Bible fit into it's own ideas by obeying one verse and ignoring others?

A:The question of the ways in which women may participate in the corporate worship of the congregation is discussed in some detail in the Bible study Man and Woman in God's Word and in a number of questions in the archive section of this web site.
