| Q: | I have some questions concerning two particular Biblical passages. These are: 1 Timothy 2:15 and Ephesians 5:32-34. These, I understand as basically pastoral guidance (from the Holy Spirit through St.Paul) on Christian living. 1 Timothy 2:15 seems on the surface to talk about Law (do this and you will be saved), yet upon closer examination it seems to be saying that love of childbearing is a fruit of true faith (as well as a blessing). Ephesians, of course, talks of submission of one group of people (wives) toward another (husbands), but a submission that is a spiritual one, like the Church submits to Christ. What I am having difficulty with is the phrase "in everything." Am I correct in thinking that means "in everything" spiritual? If that is correct, then what constitutes "in everything?" The other question I have concerns the messages in these two passages and how we live in this modern age. Am I correct in thinking that our feminized society, with its emphasis on so-called "gender equality" and "a woman's choice," is in essence a great rebellion against Biblical truth? If "gender equality" means rejection of the principle that God has given men and women different roles and "women's choice" includes sexual freedom and abortion, then both are a rebellion against biblical truth. | ||||||
| A: | 1 Timothy 2:15 has caused much discussion but it seems to mean that Christian women should trust God to keep them safe through childbirth, which has now become dangerous as a result of the Fall. Submission in everything cannot be limited only to spiritual, religious matters, but it does not set aside the principle that we must obey God rather than man. | ||||||
