Q:I have been divorced a couple of years and have taken some time to heal and focus on Christ. This will not change, but I do not want to make the same mistakes and choices that I have made in the past.

I feel I am ready to begin dating, but the men that I have met so far feel that sex is a part of dating, and Our Lord is something that they take lightly.

My whole life revolves around serving the Lord and my Church. I know there must be single WELS men out their that share my passion. My question is how do you meet single WELS men who have the same drive to serve their Lord, the church, and a family?

A:I want to encourage you to stand up for Christian sanctification in your life. I would encourage you to be strong in your faith and to act out your faith in your values. Therefore, I do not want you to feel that I am in any way belittling your request when I say that we cannot specifically help you to find a good WELS man of Christian integrity to date.

I would encourage you to remember that few people tell the truth to each other in bars, taverns, and places where bar stool morality reigns rather than God’s morality.

Here are some general guidelines. God invites us to take everything to him in prayer. This is also a matter for prayer. Be specific in your prayers.

Do the WELS churches in your area have groups designed to provide an opportunity for WELS singles of all ages find a way to fellowship together? Is your pastor interested in starting such a group? Find out from him. Encourage him. Get involved in it.

I would encourage you as much as possible to become involved in church activities and music and teaching opportunities in your church. There you will find the joy of serving and the joy of working with your fellow believers to accomplish good things in God’s Kingdom.

I would encourage you to be patient in the Lord.

I would also encourage you to contact Pastor Carl Ziemer at the WELS administrative offices. He is the administrator for special ministries. He may know of a group or an organization that might be of some help to you. You can reach his office at 256-3241.

God’s blessings!
