Q:Why is Acts 8:37 included in the King James Version but left out in the NIV?

A:Acts 8:37 is placed in a footnote in the NIV because the great majority of early Greek manuscripts and translations do not have this verse. One Greek manuscript from the sixth century after Christ and a number of old latin translations from the 7th and 8th centuries do have this verse, but they are so few and so late that it is truly doubtful that this verse was part of the original text of Acts written by Luke. Some people argue that such a beautiful verse as this should not be omitted from the text. But just because the words are beautiful is not a reason to add a verse to the Bible when the manuscript evidence cleary shows it was not part of the inspired text.
