Q:Genesis

Why are many biblical persons who commit sins not condemned in the Bible? Samson visits a prostitute with no effect, but God takes his power for allowing his hair to be cut. Lot's daughter's have sex with him and no punishment is mentioned.

A:Much of the Bible is simply descriptive. The acts described are not evaluated. The reader should be able to analyze whether the acts are good or bad by knowing God's law.

In the case of Samson the judgment that came upon him was a result of his unfaithfulness of which his meeting with the prostitute was just a part. When God does not punish immediately, this does not mean he lets the person get away with it. The judgment may come later as it did in this case. For an Israelite reader the judgment on the act of Lot's daughter would be implicit in the history of the nations descended from them. They would read Genesis 19:37-38 as a negative statement.
