Q:1 Timothy

I thought that I read a passage in scriptures, a while back, that prophesied towards the end times a generation that would forsake the meat that God gave them to eat for (essentially) vegetables. Much as I have tried to find this elusive verse, I have been unsuccessful.

A:You are probably thinking about the King James translation of 1 Timothy 4:3:

Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.

This condemnation would apply to making vegetarianism a spiritual rule, but also to rules like that of the Catholic church which made it a sin to eat meat on Friday. The NIV recognizes that this word refers to rules about food, not just about meat.
