Q:Have you or anyone in the WELS reviewed the NIrV (New International Readers Version) translation of the Bible? Is it a decent and faithful translation?

A:The NIrV is a simplified version of the NIV. There is a brief review of the NIrV in the Summer 1996 issue of the Wisconsin Lutheran Quarterly. The reviewer concluded that in seeking simplicity the NIrV has in some cases sacrificed accuracy. The translation may have some value for readers with a limited value of English, but it cannot be recommended as a doctrinally accurate translation.
