| Q: | What was Gods existence before creation? | ||||||
| A: | God exists from eternity to eternity. In Psalm 90:2, the writer says, "Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God." When God created the world, he also created time. Although God can accomodate himself to time, as he did when the Word became flesh (John 1:14), he is not bound by time. As the eternal God he is outside of time. Psalm 90:4 states, "For a thousand years in your sight is like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night." 2 Peter 3:8 adds, "But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day." Closely related to God's eternal nature is that he does not change. Psalm 102:25-27 says, "In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing you will change them and they will be discarded. But you remain the same, and your years will never end." These two truths about God are difficult for us to comprehend as we live in a world that changes with the passage of time. Yet it gives us great comfort to know that God remains the same forever. And what is true about God is also true about his promises, including his promise of eternal life through Christ. | ||||||
