| Q: | What does the term "despising baptism" mean? Can you give examples of what beliefs or actions would be evidence of a despising of baptism. | ||||||
| A: | Despising baptism usually describes the action a person takes when he/she understands that Jesus commanded that we be baptized, but refuses to do so. Some people learn to know Jesus as their Savior, but don't understand what Jesus said about baptism. If they are not baptized, we can't say that their not being baptized was due to the fact that they despised baptism. But anyone who knows what Jesus said about baptism and refuses to be baptized (for whatever reason) is despising Jesus' word. In spite of the fact this person may say he/she loves Jesus as his/her Lord, this action shows that he/she is not willing to listen to all that Jesus says and so really can't say that Jesus is his/her Lord. | ||||||
