| Should a parent who is not in fellowship with his congregation (that is, living in a co-habitive, adulterous relationship) be allowed to, encouraged to, or deprived of having a baby from that relationship baptized? Should a pastor deny a baptism to an infant child of a congregation member who is not currently in fellowship?

| We cannot pass judgment about a specific situation without knowing about the facts that led to a particular decision, but in general we would not deprive a child of the means of grace because of the sins of the parents. If we baptize a child of parents who are not members in good standing, we should make it clear to the parents that we will make every effort to see to it that the child, when old enough, receives instruction in God's Word. We might express that duty and responsibility by having a member of the congregation serve as a sponsor for the child.
