Q:The way I understand the Bible it seems to indicate that a family may have communion without a pastor present. Is this correct? Also that any one that is a believer can baptize children. Is this correct?

A:Any Christian can baptize in case of necessity and baptism can be an emergency need. But because the Lord's Supper is a gathering of the congregation which can normally be planned in advance, we are slow to encourage families to set up private communion even if they are quite far from a congregation. There might be cases of extreme isolation where the family is the only congregation and the father in effect becomes the pastor of this little congregation or where an isolated congregation has to call one of its members to serve as their pastor without his having had all the formal training normally associated with such a call. But even where a family is relatively isolated we encourage them to be members of the nearest congregation and to commune with that congregation as often as possible. Also our pastors make an effort to visit isolated members to take communion to them as members of the congregation. With modern transportation the need to set up communion without a regularly trained pastor should be quite rare.
