Q:I know a 16-year-old who has never been baptized and now she would like to be baptized. Can a WELS pastor baptize her and what does she need to do before she can be baptized?

A:Yes, a WELS pastor would be happy to baptize her. It would be best for you and your friend to visit the WELS pastor to ask him how things will go leading up to the baptism.

There will be some instruction involved. This is in keeping with the New Testament example of adults being baptized after they were instructed in the Word and were able to confess the faith into which they were about to be baptized (cf. Acts 2:14-41; 8:35-37; 10:34-48; 16:30-33). As your friend hears the gospel in this instruction, her desire to be baptized will grow. I encourage you to set something up with the WELS pastor soon.
